Walmart de Mexico was named one of the World’s Greenest Companies by Newsweek. The store received a Green Score of 75.9%. Mexico is working to improve the general health of its citizens so all efforts toward better sustainability are appreciated.
In 2008, Walmart de Mexico started on a journey to reduce shopping bag waste by 50% by 2013. The company began using reusable bags and had sold 4.2 million by 2010. This caused a 58% reduction in plastic bag use three years ahead of schedule. In addition, the largest solar energy installations in Latin America can be found at this Walmart. This allows the company to save over 76.5 million kwh of energy in 2010 alone. This is the equivalent of 38,686 tons of carbondioxide.
