Sandos Caracol Eco-Resort and Spa is a new market leader is eco-tourism in Mexico. Sustainability has been a growing issue in Mexico as the country strives to increase the overall health of its citizens. This year, the resort introduced 99 eco-friendly rooms featuring ultra-efficient low energy air conditioning systems, solar water heating, water recycling, internal LED lighting, and furniture made of wood from certified forests. This effort reduced carbon emission by 70%.
This resort also features a solar golf cart – the first of its kind in Mexico. It was designed specifically to transport guests around the resort and has prevents the emission of 1,686 tons of carbon dioxide each year. This the equivalent of planting 34 trees. Next month, the resort will introduce an eco-tour called “Xcalacoco Experience” which will showcase Mayan culture that surrounds the resort. The tour will allow guests to visit Mayan ruins, witness Mayan ceremonies, help plant indigenous plants, and participate in natural treatments and ancient rituals at the spa.
Guests also have the opportunity to visit the Magic Planet Experience, a interactive digital experience developed by NASA. The experience is designed to teach guests about the solar system, human responsibility in climate change, and how they can protect the Earth.
