A new study shows that regularly taking yoga or stretching classes relieves pain and improves the mobility for people with lower back problems. The US study focused on 228 adults with lower back pain. Over three months, the back pain symptoms of adults who attended weekly yoga or stretching classes were significantly better than patients who just were given a book with advice on preventing and managing their back ailments. 60% of people who did yoga reported back pain improvements versus 46% of people who took stretching classes and 16% of those that read the book. If your lower back pain is flaring up, get up from that computer now and go do some downward facing dog! Better yet, vacation to Mexico and take yoga classes by the beach.
