Last week Mexico was chosen to be a part of the General Assembly of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), an international organization aimed at facilitating financial and societal progress and reducing poverty. Even with a hurting global economy, Mexico’s tourism industry has continued to thrive. Just last year Mexico had 22 million people visit from other countries, making it the 10th most popular tourist destination in the world. With a seat on the UNWTO, Mexico will be able to influence policies which expand investment, employment and foreign exchange. The selection marks a huge breakthrough for Mexico, as it has been working hard to develop its tourism industry over the past few years. ¡Felicitaciones!
