Four countries across Latin America were recently named to have the most outstanding reputations in terms of medical tourism, and Mexico led the list. The country’s easy proximity to the United States makes it a primary destination for medical tourism. Dental care is a major driver, as most procedures can be accomplished during a day trip just across the border. Furthermore, medical costs are generally 25-35% of the equivalent costs in the United States. Of those individuals that have received medical treatment in Mexico, about 90% report that the care provided was good or excellent – a better report than received by the American health system. The close integration of the border region economies makes it difficult to provide an exact number of medical travelers going to Mexico, however the number is in the millions and growing rapidly!
