I’ve discussed Bioheart, a company focused on the discovery and development of autologous cell therapies for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, on this blog before. The company announced that the first two congestive heart failure patients had gone through the treatments and 3 month follow up with stem cell therapy successfully at Hospital Angeles Tijuana through its Center of Excellence, Regenerative Medicine Institute of Tijuana, Mexico. Biohart has been working since March to establish five Stem Cell Centers of Excellence in Latin America, the Regenerative Medicine Institute being the first of such.
The therapy involved the use of stem cells taken from the patient’s own fat using liposuction. Stem cells were separated from the fat and were then injected into the patients’ hearts with Bioheart’s needle injection catheter.
Dr. Juan J. Parcero, the treating Interventional Cardiologist and head of the cardiac program at the Hospital Angeles spoke on Bioheart’s program, “The ability to offer cutting edge treatments and regenerative medicine has provided new hope to these patients. We are very pleased with the positive outcomes seen in the patients treated so far.”
Not only do these advances represent great strides in the world of medical tourism, and help bolster Mexico’s place as a global industry leader, but they represent great strides in the larger world of medicine. The successful completion of such treatment through Bioheart represents hope fo congestive heart failure patients worldwide.
