Florida is making its move into the medical tourism industry. While most of us think of medical travel in terms of traveling outside of the U.S. for health care, I have also mentioned domestic medical tourism on this blog before – and this entails travel within the United States for more affordable quality care.
Sarasota-based Florida Med-Retreat recently went live with a website promising “Surgery in Paradise,” promoting packaged surgery stays that include everything from post-op therapy to theater tickets.
“Miami – Medical Excellence with a Tropical Flair” is the message on miamihealthcare.org, a collaboration of seven South Florida hospitals.
Medical Tourism magazine’s editor, Renee-Marie Stephano, describes Florida’s push to attract patients as “small but growing.” She explained how U.S. hospitals are realizing that medical tourism is a valid industry, and one that they want to participate in.
