Here’s another exciting advance from the world of medical tourism. After several years of planning, movement is underway towards the implementation of a “medical cluster” for the Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit region–a prominent component of the country’s medical tourism market.
For many, this begs the question as to what exactly a medical cluster is. A medical cluster is defined by the Medical Tourism Association as an “independent organization of hospitals, clinics, medical professionals, and government in a specific city, state, or region.” These bodies join together to fund the enterprise, and promote medical tourism to the area. When a cluster is successful, it can have widespread consequences for member organizations, as well as the hosting region.
Puerto Vallarta and the Riviera Nayarit are positioned to easily provide care to Canadian and American medical tourists, and the area is ripe with capable hospitals, clinics and spas with an internationally-recognized reputation for quality treatment.
The Medical Tourism Association continued to say that “forming a healthcare cluster or medical cluster is probably the most important single step in establishing a medical tourism destination.” Therefore, this promises big things not only for the surrounding area, but for Mexico as a whole in terms of further establishing the country as a credible medical travel destination!
